Composer, Choral Conductor & Singer
I have been a lecturer (Odeion School of Music) in South Africa since 2009 and Director of Music (Bloemfontein Cathedral) since 2013. Before this, I was a music teacher (1997-2009) in Pretoria
As a composer, I write chamber music, organ music & liturgical music in the Anglican tradition. As Director of Music of the Cathedral of St Andrew & St Michael (Bloemfontein), I conduct a choir of parishioners, and the Cathedral Singers.
As a Lecturer in the Odeion School of Music (University of the Free State), I sing in & conduct the Odeion Choir, and teach composition, choral conducting & musicology.I taught music theory, piano, and singing for twelve years at two schools in Pretoria. In my spare time, I conducted two choirs and sang in two others.
My orchestral conducting repertoire includes Schubert’s 6th Symphony, Mendelssohn’s ‘Hebrides’ Overture, Mozart’s 40th Symphony, Prokofiev’s ‘Peter & the Wolf’, Bach’s 6 motets & ‘St John Passion’, Handel’s ‘Fireworks’ & ‘Ode to St Cecilia’, Charpentier’s ‘Te Deum’ in D, Vivaldi’s ‘Four seasons’, Buxtehude’s ‘Membra Jesu nostri’, and masses by Mozart, Schubert, Palestrina, Victoria & Haydn.
My solo vocal repertoire includes the Evangelist & tenor solo parts in Bach’s ‘Christmas Oratorio’, & Schumann’s ‘Dichterliebe’. I have also played harpsichord/organ continuo in baroque works.
