Artist, Composer & Filmaker
ROBERT O’CONNOR is a multi-disciplinary artist whose work has been exhibited throughout the United States and Japan. He is a co-founder/creator of FilmOneFest (the international one-minute film festival) and served as its Creative Director for 10 years. He holds an MFA degree from Vermont College of Fine Arts and a bachelors and masters degree from The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art in engineering. He also studied at the National Academy and the Art Students League of NY and received the prestigious Edward McDowell Grant. He studied music composition at the Juilliard Extension and attended the European American Musical Alliance residency in Paris in 2016. His paintings, prints and videos have been exhibited at New York Studio Gallery (including two solo exhibitions). He participated in several film festivals including the Chicago Underground Film Festival and the Provincetown International Film Festival. He scored the “10 10 10 Days in a City” project at the KyotoGraphie international photography festival in Kyoto, Japan in 2021. His music video “Burning Cathedrals” was a selection at the 2022 Cannes Short Film Festival. Robert also sits on the board of AHArts, a local arts organization helping to grow and sustain creative communities.
This is an elegy for the trees. I shot this video in Vermont, a place I have a deep love and connection with. James Waldo’s incomparable playing, infuses the piece with rich color and emotion. It is an official selection of the Cannes Short Film Festival 2022. The video is currently part of the NJ Arts Annual 2023 at the Noyes Museum’s Art Garage in Atlantic City, NJ.
